👥 How many players are on a team?
Each team fields nine players. You must have at least three female and three male players. The other three can be any gender. Subs are allowed at any time if they have signed the waiver and created an Urban Rec account.
⏰ How long is a game?
Games run for seven innings and last up to one and a half hours. The last inning will be called if needed for daylight or safety.
🎯 How do we score?
A run is scored when a runner touches all the bases and crosses home plate. Each team bats until three outs are recorded. The team with the most runs wins. Draws are allowed.
🪙 How does the game start?
Captains meet for a coin toss. The winner chooses whether to bat or field first.
🧤 What equipment do we need?
Urban Rec provides the game balls and two bats (one light, one heavy). Players must bring their own gloves. No metal cleats are allowed.
🥎 How does pitching work?
Pitchers throw to their own team from a marked line. Once the ball is hit, the pitcher cannot touch it. If they do, the batter is out and runners return to their bases.
🧢 What are the batting rules?
You must take a full swing. No bunts, drag bunts, check swings, or chops. One warning is given, then it is an automatic out. You are out after three strikes or three bad pitches.
🚦 What are the base running rules?
No sliding, stealing, or leading off. Runners must avoid contact and fielders cannot block the bases. On overthrows out of play, runners get the base they were heading to plus one.
🧱 How do fielders get runners out?
By catching a fly ball, tagging a runner not on base, or throwing to a base before the runner arrives. Outfielders must stay behind the 160 foot line until the ball is hit.
⚠️ What is the mercy rule?
Teams can only score a maximum of seven runs per inning unless it is the last inning and one team is trailing by ten or more. The focus is always on safe, fun, and fair play.
